Former Interior Minister Igor Bavcar Slovenia, one of the architects of the independence of this former Yugoslav republic in 1991, was sentenced today to seven years in prison for money laundering when leading a company. Interior Minister between 1990 and 1992, and president of the Slovenian group Istrabenz (tourism and energy) since 2002, Bavcar was found guilty by a court of Ljubljana "money laundering and abuse of power" during the sale of shares to the group Istrabenz restoration Slovenian Pivovarna Lasko.
The former minister was also sentenced to a fine of 21 million euros, the sum of which benefited during the illegal transaction in 2007, according to the court.
"The supply chain [of the shares of Istrabenz] can only be understood as an illegal trade in order to ensure financial benefits, " the judge considered Vladislava Lunder when announcing the verdict.
The agreement was implemented by Bosko SROT, at the time president of Pivovarna Lasko, in turn sentenced to five years and ten months in prison for buying illegal actions and abuse of power.
The two accused have said they will appeal the sentence.
Two others indicted in this case were sentenced to three years and six months and three years and nine months in detention.
Igor Bavcar is considered as one of the architects of the independence of the small country of two million inhabitants in 1991, following the breakup of the former federal Yugoslavia. Until 2002 he conducted the negotiations for the accession of Slovenia to the European Union (EU) before dropping sharply politics to become the boss of Istrabenz.
In June, the same court in Ljubljana had already condemned the former Conservative Prime Minister Janez Jansa (2004-2008 and 2012-2013) and two years in prison and 37, 000 euros fine for corruption, under a contract of 278 weapons million euros to the Finnish company Patria.

Palestinian pressure on the two countries (Britain and Spain) was instrumental in their decision to avoid participation.
They should be embarrassed. The Palestinians themselves benefit tremendously from tourism to Israel (and especially Jerusalem).
